The central location in Chile makes Santiago a great base for visiting other areas. It features highlights such as La Moneda (Coin Palace), Plaza de las Armas, Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral and Parque Araucano. At a height of 300 meters, Sky Costanera offers a 360° view of the city. However, a highlight of any visit to the capital of Chile is taking the aerial tramway to San Cristóbal Hill for its stunning views over Santiago metropolis. The summit can also be reached by a long hike. On a clear day you can even see the Andes. After that you can have lunch at the colourful mercados Central or La Vega.
Santiago is home to nice museums and galleries, like the Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts and La Chascona Casa Museo. Other must-sees are the excellent Museum of pre-Columbian Art (Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino), featuring collections relating to the country's native people, and the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, commemorating those who suffered under the Pinochet regime.
