Many travelers dream of staying in a overwater bungalow or a villa at least once. However, this type of accommodation is often priced well above what the average tourist’s can spend. Typically, such room costs €550 per night, even in low season. There are, however, more affordable options. In this article we’ll share with you the 10 cheapest bungalows and villas on the water for 2021.

More than two-thirds of the 7,000 overwater bungalows and villas are in the Maldives, spread over more than 110 local resorts. Bora Bora is the second destination with the largest number of this type of rooms, which also popular in Moorea, Tahiti, as well as in the Caribbean Islands, Thailand, Malaysia, Mauritius and the Philippines.

10. Holiday Inn Resort, Vanuatu – From €249

With a remote location in the South Pacific, this resort offers 10 villas over the lagoon, among other types. A casino and various water activities are also available to all guests. Recent reviews have been excellent and the price is quite adequate. The only hiccup is getting to Vanuatu.

9.Gangehi Island Resort , Maldives – From €240

This island resort has eight common villas and eight others in the deluxe category with a total of 45 rooms. If seen from the outside, the villas do not look as impressive as other examples on this list, but the interior is quite luxurious and well equipped. Although located on a small island, there are two restaurants and a bar at the resort. Visitors’ opinions are consistently very good.

8.Pulo Cinta Eco Resort , Indonesia – From €206

This impressive new eco-resort off the Indonesian island of Sulawesi is far more attractive than the competition and offers reasonable rates. However, its very remote location, only accessible by boat, can be a slight obstacle. Pulo Cinta Eco Resort has 15 overwater bungalows with one to three bedrooms.

7.Royal Huahine Resort , French Polynesia – From €202

The 17 water-view bungalows at the Royal Huahine Resort, in Huahine are a smart choice for those looking for reasonable prices. The three-star resort is a more affordable alternative than its four- and five-star neighbors.

6. Azul Paradise Resort , Panama – From €200

This new eco resort in Panama offers 10 overwater bungalows. As it is an eco hotel, the bungalows in this place are a bit less luxurious than usually. However, visitors love the place, and many spend their honeymoon there. The resort is located in the Bocas del Toro region, a warm area on the Caribbean coast of Panama, within easy reach. Here it is possible to swim under the bungalows and there are also various forms of entertainment such as water sports.

5. Punta Caracol Acqua-Lodge , Panama – From €194

Punta Caracol Acqua-Lodge features nine overwater apartments divided into three categories. Even on the cheapest, visitors have access to a two-story units with a double bed at the top of the attic and a large private terrace. The biggest disadvantage of this resort is its remoteness.

4. Lexis Hbiscus Port Dickson , Malaysia – From €169

Operating since 2016, the Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson has 522 villas , each with its own private pool. Holder of the record for the world’s largest water surface resort it is accessible through Kuala Lumpur Airport. Although the rooms are huge and luxurious and all have a private pool, the prices are surprisingly low. The equipment is new and well built and there are a number of luxurious amenities available to guests.

3. AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort , Malaysia – From €150

Opened in 2011, AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort has 392 water villas at your disposal . Until 2016, this was the largest resort in the world, with four different types of accommodation. All accommodations are accessible and quite spacious – the largest of which has three bedrooms. Unfortunately, it is not possible to swim under the villas. The resort is located close to the coast, south of Kuala Lumpur airport. So, for an affordable trip, you can opt for a flying with Ar Asia.

2.KC Resort & Over Water Villas, Koh Samui, Thailand – From €124

KC Resort & Over Water Villas is another interesting and not very traditional overwater resort. There are 16 aquatic villas located on the Thai island of  Koh Samui, much easier to reach than Bora Bora or Maldives.

1.Berjaya Langkawi Resort , Malaysia – From €99

The Berjaya Langkawi Resort features 47 chalets on the water, a little closer to the coast than at other resorts. The rooms are well decorated and spacious. In total, there are 350 units at this resort, including chalets among between the jungle.
