The Maldives, Paris or Venice come to mind when planning for a honeymoon. But it turns out that the most popular destination for newlyweds is none of the above!
For some, the honeymoon is the most important journey in their lives. Most of us want it to be luxurious, preferably under palm trees, in a “perfect place for two.” After analysing around 10.000 posts dedicated to the subject on Pinterest, Kuoni, a luxury travel publication, shows that this stereotype is becoming more and more old-fashioned.
“Pinterest and wedding planning go hand in hand, so it’s a valuable resource that gives you an idea of the most desirable destinations for a honeymoon in the world,” explains Kuoni spokeswoman Rachel O’Reilly.
According to the publication, that the most popular place and the undisputed winner of the ranking was Bali. Green rice terraces, beautiful waterfalls and amazing scenery are just some of the attractions of the island. Add to that the many hotels that offer rooms with private pools, spa treatments with flowers and aromatic oils, and the recipe for the perfect honeymoon is complete.
For those with a tighter budget or worried about the current restrictions there are good news. A honeymoon in the runner up involves way less travel time. Italy was found to be the second most popular destination for the newlywed. Not a bit surprise here, since Rome, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast and Venice are considered to be some of the most romantic places in Europe.
In third place – Hawaii! Tropical landscapes, beautiful beaches and a full range of accommodation options – from inexpensive to the most luxurious hotels – will help couples to have the time of their lives.
Interestingly, the Maldives , which is probably the first place most people think of in the context of luxury travel – took only fourth place. Overwater bungalows, snow-white sand and crystal-azure water still seduce the newlyweds, but seem to be losing ground.
And fifth place? Any guesses? Paris? Nah. Maybe French Polynesia? Nope. The fifth most popular destination in the list is… Ireland. We know we know, Ireland when planning such an important and romantic trip? Its a fair point but, for those who really like the stunning green scenery and good beer, the country is probably as close to heaven as you can get while living!
In addition, were also featured in the raking popular holiday destinations as Thailand, Mexico, Greece and India . Costa Rica – one of the most beautiful countries in the world – closes the top 10, followed by Japan, Jamaica, New Zealand. France is found only in 14th place, contradicting the idea that almost all the newlyweds in the world would like to visit Paris.
It is noteworthy that another little surprise is the inclusion of Iceland in the 15th position. Although there are no palm trees and snow-white beaches, it is difficult to deny the extraordinary attractiveness and amazing scenery of the island.
The top 20 closes with Saint Lucia, Aruba, Bahamas, Spain and Fiji.
