23 km east of Yerevan, you can explore a geological oddity topped with a temple. The gorge, carved out by the Goght River, has cliff walls of octagonal basalt columns. The natural symmetrical rock formations, known as the Symphony of the Stones, resemble a giant organ.
On the bank of the river you'll find the fantastically preserved architectural complex of Garni, one of the famous examples of ancient architecture. The Garni Temple is believed to have been funded by Roman Emperor Nero.
