Destination Fly4free: Gran Canaria and Tenerife
Masca Valley and Los Gigantes, Tenerife
This green and flourishing valley in the western part of Tenerife is situated at around 600 meters above the sea level. This spectacular area is named after an impressively isolated and picturesque Masca village. You can hike the Masca Barranco, a 4.5 km descent through incredible, narrow Masca Gorge, from the village to black sand beach (Playa de Masca) and then take a boat to Los Gigantes.
Despite requiring the use of hands for support in a couple of places and often being steep, the trail easy enough for relatively experienced hikers (it takes about 3 h one way). The landscape is volcanic with fantastic rock formations and vertical cliffs hundreds of meters high. During the boat trip to Los Gigantes you might see dolphins or whales.

The legacy of César Manrique, Lanzarote
Lanzarote was once a lush island. However, after a series of violent eruptions in 1730-36, thick layers of ash and volcanic pebbles covered one third of the area. Long years after the disaster, the moonlike land was moulded by an artist César Manrique. His world-class designs for tourist attractions, integrated in the natural landscape, are the top places to see in the island.
They say that Lanzarote is Manrique's most important work of art. His vision of how man and the environment interact, infuses many of the island's top spots, like Mirador del Rio, Jardín de Cactus, El Diablo Restaurant and Jameos del Agua with its famous theatre in a cave. His desire to live with the volcanic lava has even led him to build his own house in the Taro de Tahiche (La Fundación César Manrique). The building was created over a stream of petrified lava. The uniquely shaped living rooms are located in the volcanic bubbles.
