The 3,000 vertical pillars, covered in dense green foliage, served as inspiration for the floating Hallelujah Mountains in the movie "Avatar". Ride the longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world, running from Zhangjiajie railway station to the top of Tianmen Mountain. It has 98 cars, a total length of 7,455 m (24,459 ft) and ascent of 1,279 m (4,196 ft).
You can walk the cliff path that encircles the mountain top. With a total of 99 hairpin turns, the 11 km (6.8 mi) Heaven-Linking Avenue also reaches the peak and takes visitors to Tianmen cave, a natural hole in the mountain. The old path of 999 carved stone steps, leading to enormous gaping hole in the centre of the rock, appears as a stairway to heaven. The Tianmenshan Temple is located on the summit. For those with no fear of heights, there is a skywalk with glass floor around the vertical cliff and the longest and tallest glass bridge in the world, suspended at terrifying heights.
