Expert mountaineers can climb one of the snow-capped summits.

Kazakhstan also has the natural facilities for winter sports, like skiing. Visit Shymbulakski resort, located in the upper part of the Medeu Valley in the Zaiilisky Alatau mountain range. If you like hockey, there are several ice skating rinks.
History lovers should take a trip to the Great Silk Road, the ancient trade route connecting the East and West from China to the Mediterranean Sea. The dales and valleys of the Tien-Shan provided shelter for the merchants, workers, monks and soldiers who journeyed the 6,500 kilometres between east and west. You can also visit the town of Taraz and enjoy the great masterpieces of antique architecture, listed by UNESCO.
