Etihad’s stopover program is back and now offers free accommodation for up to 2 nights in Abu Dhabi
In a decision aimed at promoting tourism, Etihad Airways announced a significant update of its stopover program, now inviting all passengers to extend their layovers in Abu Dhabi, offering up two nights in selected hotels.
Before this change, those who chose to extend their layover in the emirate through the stopover program could enjoy discounts on accommodation. Now the program offers completely free stays in selected hotels to passengers who choose to make a stopover in Abu Dhabi.
The changes to the program come in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, aiming to encourage travelers to extend their layovers and discover the destination. As an incentive, the program includes complimentary stays of up to 2 nights at a range of partner hotels. Thus, when booking flights directly with Etihad, all passengers now have the option to add a stopover in Abu Dhabi and select a complimentary hotel as part of the online booking process. Furthermore, naturally, this change does not result in any increase in airfare.
This program requires a mandatory minimum transit period of 24 hours in Abu Dhabi on flights booked through the airline’s website or call center, and accommodation must be pre-booked up to 72 hours (3 days) before the arrival date through Etihad’s website Direct bookings with the hotel are not accepted.
Moreover, this could be a quite popular option for passengers flying to South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and even Oceania, as Abu Dhabi is seen as a significant hub between the West and the East. In this way, besides breaking up a long and tiring journey, passengers now have the opportunity to add another destination to the mix, taking the chance to see the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque, visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi, or simply relax on the beach and stroll along the Corniche.
Another very positive point is the inclusion in the program of the Abu Dhabi Pass, a tourist pass that offers discounts on many of the city’s top attractions and culinary experiences. Simply show your boarding pass at any of the included venues, and the agreed discount will be automatically applied.
