Explore the Mendenhall Ice Caves, where water runs under breathtakingly blue walls inside the glacier. To access the caves you have to kayak to them and then ice climb over the Mendenhall Glacier. It’s surrounded by the Tongass National Forest. Here you can take a trail to the Nugget Falls, a gorgeous waterfall located just a 45-minute walk (round trip) from the visitors' centre.
Hubbard Glacier, located in eastern Alaska and part of Yukon, is very isolated and is only accessible by cruise ship. Some land excursions in Alaska visit the 8-meters-high Guyot Glacier Ice Caves - passageways that were melted out by the stream flowing along the cave floor in this massive body of ice. You can also trek out onto the glacier itself, led by trained guides.
