Many activities and attractions like the Weta Studios and Hobbiton Movie Set, offer the chance to see the film locations for yourself. The picturesque Hobbiton is situated about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) west of Hinuera and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of Matamata, in Waikato. Experience the real Middle-earth in a picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges. Take a look at Bag End, where Frodo and Bilbo’s adventures began and feel like you’re are walking around a real Hobbit village. Get lost among the hobbit holes and visit the Green Dragon Inn, the mill, double arched bridge and the Party Tree.

Tongariro Crossing in the Central North Island takes you through where they filmed Mordor in Lord of the Rings. Ngauruhoe volcano is famous for filling in as Mt. Doom in the trilogy.
