Palma de Mallorca can be a great base to explore a different corner of the island each day. The city itself still retains much of its heritage and old architecture. La Seu Cathedral, overlooking the Bay of Palma, took 500 years to build. It's one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Europe. While in Palma, you can also visit the imposing Royal Palace of La Almudaina, built as an Arabian Fort (Alcázar), or head to gorgeous 15th-century sandstone Sa Llotja, which was a merchants’ stock exchange.
High on a hill overlooking the entire city is the well-preserved Bellver Castle from the late 13th century. You can get there using an inexpensive bike rental scheme, available in Palma.
