The Popeye Village was built in the north-west corner of Malta as a film set for the production of the 1980 musical movie version of "Popeye", starring Robin Williams. Over 20 rustic wooden houses were built at Anchor Bay in order to create the fictional village of Sweethaven. A huge breakwater was even constructed to protect the movie set from the high seas.
Today it is open to the public as an open-air museum and family entertainment complex. Guests can take a boat trip around Anchor Bay to view the village from the sea and children can meet their favourite characters from the film.
